Rise and Pray
April 11, 2017 | by: 0 Comments|
While reading Luke 19-22 this morning, I was stopped here, "And when he (Jesus) rose from prayer, he came to the disciples and found them sleeping for sorrow” (Luke 22:45, ESV).
I was stopped by seeing how difficult it is engage in continual, urgent praying. I saw the disciples wrestling with the coming death of Jesus and retreating to sleep instead of engaging with prayer and pleading. I do not look down on the disciples as much as I understand their response. Life is tiring, and prayer is difficult work. Life is busy, and prayer requires that we take a step back to consider the God who hears. Prayer calls us to step back from having all the solutions and to resume looking to the One who is able. In many ways, learning to pray is learning to live as a Christian.
With the disciples, I hear Jesus saying to me, “Rise and pray” (Luke 22:46, ESV), and I am encouraged. I want to pray earnestly and boldly.
As Waiting: 42 Days of Prayer and Fasting presses forward, I invite you to “rise and pray” along with me. Let’s be found earnestly seeking our God for His wisdom and blessing.
